– Synopsis –

あらすじ

Aya is a 10 years old girl who was born to poor parents.

あやは貧しい両親にのもとに生まれた、10歳さいの女おんなの子こです。

She has a younger sister named Soyo.

あやにはそよという妹がいます。

When the village festival approached, Soyo nags her mom by saying that she wants a new red kimono for the festival.

村むらの祭まつりが近ちかづいた頃ころ、そよは祭まつりの着物きものが欲ほしいと言いっておっかあを困こまらせました。

Aya also wanted a kimono, but she knew that her house was so poor that her parents couldn’t buy two of them, so she asked her mom to buy one for Soyo and be patient with herself.

あやも着物きものが欲ほしかったのですが、家いえが貧乏びんぼうで、二人ふたり分ぶんの着物きものを買かえないことを知しっていたので、おっかあに、そよに着物きものを買かってくれと頼たのみ、自分じぶんは辛抱しんぼうしました。

The next day, Aya went to the mountain alone to pick some wild vegetables, then she lost her way and arrived deep in the mountain where beautiful flowers were blooming.

次つぎの日ひ、あやは山菜さんさいを採とりに一人ひとりで山やまへ入り、道みちに迷まよって綺麗きれいな花はなが咲さく山やまの奥おくへ辿たどり着つきました。

Just then, a mountain witch appeared from somewhere and started talking.

すると、どこからか山姥やまんばが現あらわれ、語かたり始はじめました。

“Here in the mountain, one flower blooms for each time when the villagers at the foot of the mountain do something gentle.

「この山やまでは、麓ふもとの村むらの人間にんげんが優やさしい事ことをする毎たびに、花はなが一ひとつ咲さく。

The red flower that blooms at your feet is the one that you made bloom yesterday.”

お前まえの足下あしもとに咲さいている赤あかい花はなは、お前まえが昨日きのう咲さかせた花はなだ。」

The mountain witch knew all about the situation where Aya was patient with the kimono yesterday.

山姥やまんばは、昨日きのう、あやが着物きものを辛抱しんぼうしたことも全部ぜんぶ知しっていました。

The mountain witch made Aya listen and told her some other stories of the gentle conducts of the villagers.

山姥やまんばはまた、別べつの村人むらびとの優やさしい品行ひんこうを、あやに話はなして聞きかせたのでした。

After she finished telling the stories, the mountain witch again said, “The flowers on this flowering mountain are all blooming by that. “

話はなしを終おえた山姥やまんばは、再ふたたび言いいました。「この、花はなさき山やま一面いちめんの花はなは、みんなこうして咲さいたんだ。」

If you become patient and give up by thinking about others rather than yourself, that gentle feeling will bloom here as a flower.

自分じぶんの事ことより人ひとの事ことを思おもって辛抱しんぼうすると、その優やさしい思おもいがここに花はなとして咲さく。

After Aya came back from the mountain, she told everything to her parents and the villagers, including the story she heard from the mountain witch.

山やまから帰かえったあやは、山姥やまんばから聞きいた話はなしを含ふくむ全すべてを両親りょうしんや村人むらびとに話はなしました。

However, no one believed Aya’s story.

しかし、あやの話はなしを信しんじてくれる人ひとは誰だれもいませんでした。

After that, Aya went to the mountain, but she never met the mountain witch or found those beautiful flowers again.

その後あとも山やまへ入はいりましたが、山姥やまんばには遭あうことも、あの綺麗きれいな花はなを見みつけることも、二度にどとありませんでした。

But, Aya sometimes thought, “My flower is starting to bloom in the mountain right now.”

けれども、あやはときどき「今いまあの山やまでおらの花はなが咲さいたな」と思おもうことがありました。
